12 Dec  The 1999 ACT Gridiron League Awards and Recognition Presentation Dinner was held last night. This event honours not only players but those volunteers and supporters who contribute to the operation of the League throughout the year.

The 1999 Dinner was addressed by Mr. Trevor Kaine, MLA, a founding supporter and the Patron of the League.

The 1999 Awards saw the announcement of two new awards the ACTGL Coach of the Year and the ACT Capital Bowl Most Valuable Player sponsored by Sybertel Strategies.

The Coach of the Year was won by Craig Simmons of the Canberra Tigers acknowledging his work on and off the field to bring the Tigers from the bottom of the ladder to Grand Final Winners.

The Sybertel Strategies Capital Bowl MVP was Steve Hoppitt, Offensive and Defensive Lineman for the Canberra Tigers, proving that the "glory boys" can not do it without the best on the line of scrimmage.

The Volunteers of the Year were Diane and Steve Hoppitt for there work in reviving the Canberra Tigers in 1999.

The ACTGL Most Valuable Player for 1999 was Brian Hoekstra of the Canberra Tigers.

The winner of the ACT Gridiron Officials Shane Gray Best and Fairest Trophy for 1999 was Aaron Froud of the University of Canberra Firebirds.
